The infection can also be passed into the patient during the surgery or during the post operative period.

Few blood tests like CBC, ESR, CRP, Blood Sugar, Hb A1C, X-Ray of the Chest and Urine-R/M are advised and we check these reports. Once these reports are clear then the surgery date is decided. If there is any kind of infection in these reports then the patient is put on a course of antibiotics for a week before repeating the tests.
The post operative care should be free of all kinds of infections. The patient has to be careful after discharge from the hospital for a period of atleast 3-4 weeks not to contract any kind of infection. The maximum chances of the implant getting infected is during the first 4 weeks from the surgery.
After the first 2 months of the surgery have passed then the chances of infection to the implant are greatly reduced. However if the patient contracts any kind of infection and ignores it completely without taking medical help then also there are chances that the implant might get affected. You should not allow your body to remain infected for a long period of time to prevent infection to the implant.
